LBS to offer Senior Executive Programme scholarship worth £30k
The 30% Club has teamed up with London Business School (LBS) to launch a full scholarship aimed at women in leadership positions with C-Suite potential. This scholarship is part of a growing 30% Club initiative to increase the progression of women to senior executive positions by encouraging more females to undertake academic professional development. Current research indicates a much higher proportion of men participate in business school-led programmes; the 30% Club aims to address this imbalance.
Applications for the LBS Senior Executive Programme Scholarship are now open and close on September 30th. The selection process will include panel interviews with Carolyn McCall (EasyJet), Anthony Jenkins (Barclays), Helena Morrissey (CEO, Newton Investment Management and Founder of 30% Club), Henrietta Royle (Chief Executive, Fanshawe Haldin), Professor Lynda Gratton (LBS) and Sabine Vinck (Associate Dean of LBS Executive Education).
Helena Morrissey CBE, CEO of Newton and Founder of the 30% Club said: “We are hugely appreciative of the generous support that London Business School is giving this initiative. Following the generous scholarships from Saïd Business School, University of Oxford and Henley for Executive MBAs for mid-career women, we clearly needed something for senior women aspiring to move into the C-Suite for their next role. This focus aims to improve the pipeline of women for future senior executive roles and to help companies develop their female executive talent.
“Many men participate in these programmes and relatively few women. The programme will equip successful applicants with a highly accredited business education, build confidence and skills and provide significant networking opportunities within a dynamic business forum.”
Carolyn McCall, CEO of EasyJet plc, who completed a senior executive programme at Wharton, added: “The experience of the Advanced Management Programme is something you only get to do once in a career. I learnt a great deal from the whole thing – the content of the programme and the other people on it from all over the world and from a wide range of sectors.”
Sabine Vinck, Associate Dean of LBS Executive Education, said: “Put simply, we want to increase the female representation on our programmes. Our Senior Executive Programme brings together a diverse group of senior business people. However, the number of women remains far too low. There are women in business today fully suited to the Senior Executive Programme, but for various reasons they are not applying. One way we aim to address this is by offering a full scholarship to a successful female candidate.”
London Business School’s Senior Executive Programme focuses on three key elements of success – Strategy, Leadership and Transformation. The programme is made up of two modules, both two weeks’ duration with a break of 6-8 weeks in between, delivered on campus in London, starting in January 2015. Candidates for the 30% Club Scholarship will either be responsible for a significant business area within such a company or be the CEO of a mid-sized organisation.
Candidates will be put forward by their employees based on talent and achievements in delivering outstanding performance. In order to apply for the scholarship, a short description of a transformation achieved should be provided, together with a brief comment on its impact by their line manager and CEO or delegate. Shortlisted candidates will be selected by the panel, then be interviewed in [October], with the winner announced shortly afterwards. The deadline for submissions is [30th September 2014].
