Change: An inevitable and unavoidable part of life

Change is inevitable and other than death, it’s the one thing in life we can guarantee. Like it or not, things change and life as you know it changes over time – or sometimes in an instant.

Despite change being unavoidable, many people find it difficult to deal with. They fight it, try to avoid it and work hard to keep things the same. Unfortunately, all this does is lead to frustration and discontentment. Depending on the extent of the change, refusing to adapt can also lead to isolation.

To live a happy and fulfilled life, we must not only expect change, but we must also accept it. There is no certainty in life and it is vital that you are malleable enough to evolve with the ever changing variables in life.

People who embrace change tend to be happier. They possess the ability to adapt to altering and unexpected circumstances and keep moving forward. Rather than being stopped, they make adjustments and look for alternative options.

Fear of the unknown is normally what prevents people from accepting change. This keeps people living in their comfort zone and often prevents them from experiencing life to the fullest. Your comfort zone may give you a sense of safety; however it can also restrict you. Resisting change keeps people living small inhibited lives and can result in regrets and disappointment.

In nature, species that do not adapt to the changing environments and circumstances become extinct and the saying ‘survival of the fittest’ is still true today.

Adaptability gives us the power and freedom to create our lives at any point in time. It also gives us the confidence to overcome obstacles and the drive to keep moving forward to pursue our dreams and aspirations.

If an aspect of your life is not working, it is time to change something. If you keep doing what you’ve always done, you will keep getting the same results. You may assume that keeping things the same, even if they’re not working for you, provides you with a certain degree of safety. This is a dangerous assumption to make because often if you don’t make a change, someone else eventually does and then you have little or no control over your situation.

In nature, species that do not adapt to the changing environments and circumstances become extinct and the saying ‘survival of the fittest’ is still true today. People who foresee necessary changes and take action experience life more positively than those who are forced to react.

To live an empowered life, it is essential that you become proactive and receptive to change. This enables you to choose the direction for your life and determine the outcome of your choices.

“Enjoying success requires the ability to adapt. Only by being open to change will you have a true opportunity to get the most from your talent.” ~ Nolan Ryan
