3 Effective Ways to Rediscover Your Purpose

Leanne-purposeFor many women feeling dissatisfied in their career, the only thing they look forward to (other than the weekend) is those few weeks they get away from the office on annual leave. However, this time can be bittersweet.

Whilst you’re away from the office, you feel a sense of freedom and relief. If you’re lucky enough to actually go on holiday, even better. Then, as the end of your annual leave approaches, the reality that you are returning to a part of your life that makes you feel trapped and unfulfilled kicks in.

Working in a career that leaves you feeling dissatisfied and demotivated can cause you to lose sight of your purpose. Rediscovering your purpose enables you to experience more joy and fulfilment in your life. I believe that everyone has a purpose; however I also recognise how easy it is today’s society to be completely oblivious to what your purpose may be. I also appreciate how challenging it can be to rediscover your purpose.

The question “What is my purpose in life?” haunts many people on a daily basis, particularly when you are in a job or career that is sucking the life out of you!

Rather than thinking of it as this huge life dependent question, break it down into smaller intentions for your life. Identifying smaller intentions can eventually lead you to your overall purpose.

Here are 3 things you can try to move you closer to identifying your purpose:

  1. Get Inspired

Find it or create it. Go after it rather than waiting for it to land in your lap. Listen to uplifting music, read motivating books, attend inspiring talks.

  1. Get Excited

Plan something to do, either with friends or your own that will excite you. Do something that will give you a buzz and get your heart racing.

  1. Visualise

I am huge advocate of vision boards. They are an extremely useful reminder of what matters to you and when you lack motivation or enthusiasm, they can remind you of your purpose and intention.

“The high prize of life, the crowning fortune of man, is to be born with a bias to some pursuit which finds him in employment and happiness.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
